Can you join others in the New Forest to protect wildlife?
Introducing the Wilder for Water Project – an exciting opportunity for New Forest businesses to obtain advice and support
Freshwater Habitats Trust have been working successfully in partnership with local organisations, businesses and communities for many years to raise awareness of the special qualities of the New Forest wetlands. We are embarking on a new initiative to promote a best practice ‘clean water standard’ for camping and recreation throughout the New Forest National Park and engage with visitors who are increasingly seeking guidance on how to go ‘green’ on their holiday or visit.
The Wilder for Water project aims to:
- Raise awareness of the unique wetland landscape supporting endangered wildlife.
- Promote responsible access without negatively affecting fresh (and coastal) waters.
- Provide free and impartial advice and guidance on water resource and water quality management to camping and recreation providers.
We are looking to work with local campsites to add value to the existing information already provided to visitors – we have available a bespoke Water Code promoting positive action and encouraging responsible recreation. It is available electronically to add to your websites and booking information. You can also get in touch and request paper copies of the leaflet as well as A4 and A3 posters that could be ideally located in toilet and shower facilities or notice boards.
We also want to find out more about how you manage water on site and what concerns or issues you may have; our advice can be tailored to support water related issues. Landowners and business who come to us for advice on land management have begun to consider that their campsite could be part of a package of works to reduce, reuse and recycle water helping local wetlands and water courses become even better for wildlife.
In addition, there is also funding available to support small-scale projects concerning water resource management at four campsites next year.
Please contact us if you are interested in our project and the benefits it could bring.
