Upcoming Event: eDNA Talk by Dr Jeremy Biggs
23rd November 2019
Join us on Wednesday 27th November at 7pm for a talk by Dr. Jeremy Biggs:
‘Environmental DNA: Revolutionising recording of freshwater biodiversity?’
Freshwater Habitats Trust is running a number of projects using environmental DNA surveys, including the world’s first national monitoring programme using eDNA for an endangered species (the Great Crested Newt), and local sampling of waterbodies around the site of the proposed Oxford Flood Alleviation Scheme, as part of a monitoring programme helping to add to the baseline information about the flood scheme area before construction begins – part of the Saving Oxford’s Wetland Wildlife Project.
Come along to find out all about environmental DNA – which enables us to detect freshwater species by obtaining a simple water sample – and how we’re using it to monitor freshwater biodiversity in Oxford and beyond.
The talk will be held at Magdalen Auditorium, Oxford, OX1 3SX (enter via Longwall Street). £2 entry. For more information and to book your place, please get in touch with Ellie Mayhew emayhew@freshwaterhabitats.org.uk
The Saving Oxford’s Wetland Wildlife project is helping to maximise the environmental and community benefit of the Oxford Flood Alleviation Scheme. The project is supported by Thames Water, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Trust for Oxfordshire’s Environment (TOE) with funding from Grundon Waste Management Ltd. through the Landfill Communities Fund.
