Water Saving Week: why we care

What has saving water got to do with protecting wildlife? On World Water Day, and Water Saving Week, we challenge you to think about the water we use, where it comes from, and where it goes when we’ve done with it.

The Freshwater Habitats Trust’s aim is to protect freshwater life for everyone to enjoy.  Our vision is that all threatened freshwater plants and animals have recovered and developed sustainable population, the UK has a functioning network of freshwater habitats – the Freshwater Network, and people value freshwater habitats and their wildlife.

We can get there by protecting the best habitats and our most threatened freshwater plants and animals, and then expanding and connecting: building out from high quality areas to create the Freshwater Network.  But we have a long way to go: the way we currently manage water resources in the UK clearly isn’t working – not for wildlife, and not for us.

If we don’t join up our thoughts about our use of water and how we protect wildlife, we are not going to get very far. Throughout Water Saving Week we are sharing a series of stories about water use and its impact on freshwater wildlife. Join the conversation on water use. #watersavingweek
