Isle of Wight Water Blitz – 25th Nov to 20th Dec 2017

The first ever landscape scale survey of water quality across the Island!

This November to December grab your wellies and get out testing ponds, streams, ditches and rivers across the Isle of Wight. Use quick kits to find amazing clean water gems, places free from pollution where wildlife can thrive. Join the citizen science survey and contribute to current scientific research.

The simple kits rapidly measure water quality, in particular the level of two widespread nutrient pollutants, nitrate and phosphate. Clean water supports rich and diverse communities of freshwater plants and animals. Sadly it only takes a little pollution to cause the loss of much this wildlife. Despite it’s importance very little is known about the water quality of the Isle of Wight. For most places this will be the first time the water quality has ever been measured.

The Isle of Wight Water Blitz aims to find those fantastic clean waters and, for the first time, to reveal the true extent of nutrient pollution facing the Island’s freshwater life.

Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, a landowner, a group, a school, a business or an interested individual, we want to encourage everyone to take part this winter.

Each Clean Water kits is made up of one nitrate and one phosphate testing tube. Each kit can only be used once, so you'll need a new one for each place you want to test.
Don't worry if you don't know where you want to test yet. We are happy to help with ideas.
